Betty Hunter
A: How long have you been a member of the guild and on the guild board?
B: I joined the Guild sometime around 2016. I joined the Board in January 2020.
A: What do you do/have done in your role?
B: I am the treasurer. I handle the banking activities, maintain the accounting records, and file with the IRS.
A: Why did you join the guild?
B: I joined the Guild for its educational opportunities and the opportunity to meet other artists.
A: When and how did you realize that you are an artist?
B: I do not know that one realizes that she is an artist; I think you just acknowledge that you are one. I always drew & painted as a child but never pursued art until after I retired. My sister is very artistic and encouraged me to try my hand so I started taking lessons, loved it and I knew I wanted to be a painter.
A: What is your medium?
B: My primary medium is oil because, in the beginning, it was more forgiving. Recently I have tried acrylics.
A: What is your art about?
B: My art is about capturing light and finding tranquility and beauty in nature. My subjects are generally landscapes and waterscapes as well as some flowers. I occasionally like to add the backs of people into my scenes.
A: What is your method of producing artwork?
B: Oil painting with brushes & pallet knife on canvas and panels.
A: Do you have a studio space?
B: Yes. I have a studio in my home.
A: How much time do you spend creating art?
B: Not enough. I am making an effort to return to painting 3-4 days a week.
A: What are some of the things you do to promote your art?
B: I have been on a bit of a hiatus but have a website, Instagram, and Facebook.
A: What advice would you like to share about the creative process, selling art in Charlotte, or anything else?
B: Avoid having expectations about your work but give yourself the grace & freedom to explore and seek joy in the process. Follow your own path and you will develop your own style.
